Akrapovič opened the doors of its state-of-the art facility in Slovenia to greet a very important guest at the company’s New Year get-together as Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) joined the staff for a very special surprise visit for the workforce.
Rea was the surprise guest of honour at the annual end-of-year get-together, where all the employees from Akrapovič joined together to commemorate another successful year for the company, and Rea’s visit added to the excitement for all. He chatted about his achievements and passions to everyone present, and then he delighted the Akrapovič employees with an autograph session.
The four-time WorldSBK champion has secured all his titles on a Kawasaki outfitted with an Akrapovič exhaust, and the Northern Irishman has been breaking records in the championship at a consistent and dominating rate. This season saw Rea score his 60th win in WorldSBK to secure the title of the most wins in the championship, and he has also set more records with his Akrapovič-equipped race bike throughout the year.
The same day, Akrapovič CEO Uroš Rosa gave Rea a tour of Akrapovič’s high-tech facilities, including a visit to the R&D and Racing R&D departments, the prototype division and the company’s in-house titanium foundry. He was also shown how his “Four of a Kind” Akrapovič exhaust to commemorate his four successive world championships was constructed by the company’s skilled staff. During his tour Rea commented: “It was nice to get the opportunity to come, to meet all the Akrapovič people that support us on the track at this time of the year, when you have more time to really appreciate all the effort that goes into exhaust systems, the history behind the company. I was impressed by the buildings. The architecture is really cool, as it is inside with all the attention to detail and cutting-edge technology with machines. Everything is super clean. I should have expected this because these are same values Akrapovič has in racing.”
To complete his visit to Akrapovič HQ, Rea was given a surprise of his own because the Slovenian exhaust specialist named one of its conference rooms after him in honour of the record achievements he has made with Akrapovič exhausts. Upon receiving this plaudit, Rea was moved to comment on the tribute, saying: “Akrapovič is a big company, working in many different motorsport disciplines, not just in motorcycles. From the car world to MotoGP and motocross. I am very proud and honoured to have a room named after me and that I made such an impact on the company.”
