GS was the multipurpose motorcycle that could tackle any type of roads; from paved roads like streets or winding roads, to off-road tracks. R1200GS was the top model of those GS, and its MY08 model was greatly evolved. Though it looked alike the former model, the engine power was raised by 5PS, both the transmission and gear ratio were changed, and the bearing was made large to smoothen the shift feel. As a consequence, the acceleration at its high rpm range and the traction performance at its low-mid rpm range have greatly improved. In terms of its equipment, the ABS and the grip heater have become its standard accessory. It was also the first dual purpose motorcycle to have the Enduro ESA (electronic suspension adjustment) as its optional part.
